This course introduces RN-BSN FlexPath learners to the academic and professional competencies required for success throughout the program and in contemporary nursing practice. The course emphasizes the development and application of foundational skills, including critical thinking, problem-solving, organization, and professional communication. Students engage in competency-based activities that support the ability to analyze healthcare issues, apply ethical reasoning, and utilize information literacy skills to locate, evaluate, and integrate scholarly evidence.
As a foundational FlexPath course, learners are expected to demonstrate mastery of competencies through applied assessments rather than traditional seat-time or discussion-based coursework. The course also strengthens scholarly writing skills and prepares students to meet the expectations of competency-based assessments across the RN-BSN curriculum. Completion of this course early in the program establishes a framework for academic success and professional growth within the FlexPath learning model.
